How this is calculated

Days between end − start the end date not counted
Counting both end − start + 1 the end date counted too
Weekdays Monday to Friday within those days
Add days start + n
Add weekdays step forward, skipping Saturday and Sunday

Dates are counted as calendar days, never as 24-hour periods,
so a clock change can never add or lose a day.

How it works

The number of days between two dates depends on one decision: whether the end date counts. From 1 January to 2 January is one day if you are measuring a gap, and two days if you are counting the days something covers — a hotel stay is charged by the nights between the dates, a festival runs on both. Neither is wrong. The box decides, and the two answers always differ by exactly one.

Every count here is done on calendar dates, not on timestamps. Subtracting two times and dividing by 24 hours is the usual shortcut, and it goes wrong across a daylight-saving change, when one day in the span is 23 or 25 hours long. Counting whole dates avoids that entirely, along with leap years: 2024 and 2000 have a 29 February, 2023 and 1900 do not.

Weekdays are Monday to Friday. They are what most deadlines, notice periods and delivery estimates mean by working days, but public holidays are not taken off, because they differ by country, by region and sometimes by employer. If a period crosses a holiday, subtract it yourself.

Adding weekdays starts counting from the next day, and skips weekends as it goes. One weekday after a Friday is the following Monday; so is one weekday after a Saturday. Ten weekdays from a Monday is the Monday two weeks later.

Worked example

A 90-day deadline from 1 January 2026, and the days in the year

  1. 1 Jan 2026 + 90 days = Wednesday 1 April 2026
  2. 1 Jan → 31 Dec 2026 = 364 days
  3. Counting 31 Dec as well = 365 days = 1 year exactly
  4. Weekdays in those 365 days = 261
  5. Weekend days = 104
  6. 2026 starts on a Thursday: 52 full weeks is 260
  7. weekdays, and the one day left over is a Thursday.

90 days from 1 January 2026 is Wednesday 1 April; the year holds 261 weekdays

How to use it

  1. Choose whether you want the days between two dates, or a date some days away.
  2. Enter the dates, or use Today to fill in your own date.
  3. For a span, tick the box if the end date should count too — for a trip or an event that runs on both days.
  4. To add or subtract, enter a whole number and choose calendar days or weekdays.

What this tool does not do

  • Public holidays are not skipped when counting or adding weekdays. They vary by country and region, so subtract them yourself.
  • Weekdays are Monday to Friday. A working week that runs on other days is not supported.
  • Dates only, with no times of day or time zones. A span that starts in the evening and ends in the morning still counts in whole dates.
  • Years from 1000 to 9999. Dates use the Gregorian calendar throughout, including before a country adopted it.
  • For an exact age from a date of birth, with the next birthday, use the age calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How many days are there between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later one in calendar days. From 1 January to 31 December 2026 is 364 days; count 31 December as well and it is 365. Enter both dates above and it does the count, including leap years.

Should I count the end date?

Count it when you want the number of days something covers — an event on both days, a leave period that includes the last day. Leave it out when you want the gap between two dates, such as how long until a deadline. The two answers always differ by one.

How do I count working days between two dates?

The weekday figure counts Monday to Friday within the span. It does not remove public holidays, because they differ by country and region, so take those off yourself. Across a whole year starting on a Thursday, as 2026 does, there are 261 weekdays before any holidays.

What date is 90 days from today?

Press Today, switch to adding days, and enter 90. From 1 January 2026, for example, 90 days lands on Wednesday 1 April 2026. The result names the weekday as well, which matters when a deadline falls on a weekend.

Does adding weekdays count the starting day?

No. Counting starts from the next day, so one weekday after a Friday is the Monday, and one weekday after a Saturday or Sunday is also that Monday. Subtracting works the same way in the other direction.

Why do some calculators give one day more or less?

Almost always because one counts the end date and the other does not, or because one divides the time between two timestamps by 24 hours and loses or gains a day across a clock change. This one counts calendar dates and lets you choose whether the end date counts.

Is this the same as the age calculator?

They share the same date arithmetic. The age calculator is for a date of birth: exact age, next birthday, the weekday you were born. This one is for any span or deadline: days and weeks between dates, working days, and the date a number of days away.
