Free Website SEO Checker

Marketing ToolsTwenty on-page checks for any URL, with a plain-English fix for each one.

Any public page. We fetch it once and read the HTML.

No sign-up, no email. Up to 6 checks a minute and 40 an hour from one address — this is one of only two tools here that costs anything to run. Results are not stored. For a full-site crawl with Core Web Vitals, use the SEO audit.

Report

Enter a URL to check its title, meta description, headings, canonical, Open Graph tags, alt text, structured data, speed and more.

How this is calculated

Content title, meta description, H1, heading order, word count
Technical HTTPS, mixed content, canonical, indexability, viewport,
lang, charset, favicon, redirects, structured data, hreflang,
            robots.txt, sitemap.xml
Social Open Graph tags, Twitter card
Links image alt coverage, internal links, link text
Performance server response time, compression, image dimensions

How it works

The checker fetches your page once, exactly as a crawler would, and reads the HTML that came back. It then runs about twenty checks across five categories and scores each one pass, warning or failure.

The score is weighted: a pass counts fully, a warning counts half, a failure counts nothing. Checks that cannot apply to your page are excluded rather than counted against you — a page with no images is not marked down for having no alt text. That is why the category breakdown matters more than the single number.

Every finding comes with why it matters and what to do about it. A score on its own is a screenshot; a prioritised list of fixes is something you can hand to a developer on Monday.

One thing to be aware of: this reads the HTML as delivered by the server, so content injected by JavaScript after load is not counted. That is a limitation, but it is also close to how a crawler sees your page on first pass — if your H1 only exists after hydration, that is worth knowing.

Worked example

A page with a 74-character title and no meta description

  1. title present, 74 characters -> warn (over ~60, will be truncated)
  2. meta description missing -> fail
  3. H1 present, exactly one -> pass
  4. weighted: 0.5 + 0 + 1 = 1.5 out of 3 for those checks

Content category scores 50, with both issues listed under 'fix these first'

How to use it

  1. Paste any public URL and run the check.
  2. Read the 'fix these first' list — it is ordered by impact, with failures before warnings and technical issues before cosmetic ones.
  3. Expand 'all checks' to see everything, including what already passes.
  4. Use the category bars to see where the weakness is concentrated.

What this tool does not do

  • It reads server-delivered HTML only. JavaScript-rendered content is not included.
  • It checks one page. Site-wide issues such as duplicate titles need the full audit.
  • It cannot judge whether your content is any good, which is usually the real reason a page does not rank.
  • Pages behind a login, a paywall or aggressive bot protection cannot be fetched.

Frequently asked questions

Is this SEO checker really free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no email required. There is a rate limit — 6 checks a minute and 40 an hour from one address — because this is one of only two tools here that runs on a server and costs money per use. Everything else runs in your browser. Results are not stored.

What is a good SEO score?

Above 80 means the technical fundamentals are sound. But the score is a summary, not the point — a page can score 95 and still not rank because the content does not match what people are searching for. Use it to catch mistakes, not to measure success.

Why does the score differ from another tool?

Every tool weights checks differently and picks a different set of them. Compare a page against itself over time rather than comparing scores across tools.

Does this check JavaScript-rendered content?

No. It reads the HTML your server returns. If your title or headings only appear after JavaScript runs, they will show as missing here — which is worth knowing, because it also affects how quickly crawlers see them.

How long should a title tag be?

Roughly 30 to 60 characters. Longer titles get truncated in results, and the truncation point depends on pixel width rather than character count, so leave some margin.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects click-through rate, which matters commercially and probably matters indirectly. Google also frequently rewrites it based on the query.

What is the difference between this and the SEO audit?

This checks one page and returns instantly. The audit crawls up to 25 pages, adds Core Web Vitals from Google, finds broken links and duplicate metadata, and produces a downloadable report.

Can I check a page behind a login?

No. The checker fetches the page anonymously, so anything requiring authentication will return the login page instead.
